Project Summary

Fairness, especially in assessing artificial intelligence (AI) systems, is an increasingly important issue for individuals affected by the decisions that these systems make, for organisations that employ these systems, and for society to address discriminatory practices. Little research has been dedicated to understanding how different stakeholders and their respective cultures and values affect fairness assessments, how they can be involved in designing interfaces and how we can design interfaces and interactions to support assessing fairness. CoFAIR investigated these concerns in the realm of loan applications, in a collaboration with Fujitsu Labs and Intesa Sanpaolo.
